FBI emails detail Sen Menendez Child Prostitution accusation

February 5, 2013. Miami. Call it a party-ordered media blackout. Democrats aren’t talking. The corporate media isn’t reporting it. Even Republicans have taken the oath of secrecy. But thanks to FBI raids across Florida last week, the American people know they’re not crazy. The US Senator from New Jersey was first accused of protecting a registered child predator on his staff. Now, he’s accused of being a child predator himself.

Double whammy

Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has repeatedly claimed he is innocent of any wrongdoing or knowledge of any wrongdoing. But with separate cases and accusers coming to similar conclusions, the New Jersey Democrat must be feeling the heat of the feds closing in on him.

The first story is that of Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta. He was an 18 year-old intern for US Sen. Robert Menendez. Zavaleta had previously been convicted of sexually assaulting an 8 year-old boy on at least 8 separate occasions. But Zavaleta was only sentenced to two years probation and the requirement that he register as a convicted child sex offender, which he did.

Zavaleta’s problems arose after he became an intern in Sen. Menendez’ Senate office. When President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program was announced, Zavaleta applied. But he illegally omitted his child molesting conviction and his designation as a registered sex offender. Immigration officials became aware of the incident and scheduled Zavaleta’s arrest for October 28, just 9 days before Election Day in which Sen. Menendez and President Obama were both up for re-election.

The Department of Homeland Security delayed the arrest until weeks after Election Day, specifically to avoid harming either Menendez’ or Obama’s chances at re-election due to the embarrassment of being linked with a convicted child predator. At first DHS officials denied the charges. But after an AP investigation revealed evidence, federal officials finally admitted they delayed the arrest, but insist it had nothing to do with politics, even though their own documents show otherwise.

Dr. Salomon Melgen

As if having a convicted child predator on his Senate staff wasn’t bad enough, Sen. Menendez now finds himself at the center of a second child molesting investigation. This time however, Menendez himself is being accused of being the child sex offender.

Last week, agents from the FBI and the US Dept. of Health and Human Services raided the medical offices of Eye Doctor Salomon Melgen for two straight days. In addition to his West Palm Beach business, agents also stormed his other businesses in Delray Beach and Port St. Lucie, taking out dozens of boxes from the facilities. As detailed by The Miami Herald, Salomon Melgen has had a long history of legal troubles. He’s also had a cozy financial relationship with some of the most powerful leaders of the Democratic Party.

Melgen has a current IRS lien for $11 million, as well as two past IRS liens for $6.2 million and $1.3 million. According to the report, the amounts represent back taxes and fines owed to the IRS. At the same time, Dr. Melgen contributed at least $357,000 to Democratic candidates and committees, including Sen. Bill Nelson, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Rep. Joe Garcia, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and Rep. Mario Diaz-Malart. Of that amount total amount, New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez received roughly $35,000. But that’s not all.

Sex trafficking in the Dominican Republic

On August 1, 2012, the political watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington referred a case of alleged child prostitution involving a sitting US Senator to the FBI. The organization couldn’t get the whistle-blower to talk to anyone over the phone or in person. So the group immediately notified the FBI of the accusations.

FBI Agent Regino Chavez contacted the informant who called himself ‘Peter Williams’. But as with the ethics watchdog group, the whistle-blower refused to talk to the FBI on the phone or in person. He would only communicate via email. By September 12, 2012, Agent Chavez emailed Williams to thank him for the credible information he gave, stating, “As far as the information you have provided, we have been able to confirm most of it. We know that you are providing accurate information.”

Those emails were part of a 58-page package of emails leaked by an unknown source to numerous media outlets, including The Miami Herald. The emails are between FBI Agent Regino Chavez and the tipster Peter Williams. Excerpts published by The Daily Caller confirm that the accusations brought forward by Williams include sexual activity with underage children.

Most of Williams’ accusations are already confirmed, many by Sen. Menendez himself. The only discrepancy is whether or not the US Senator engaged in sex with prostitutes and whether they were underage minors or not. According to Menendez, “I’m not going to respond to the fallacious allegations.” In the meantime, conservative media outlets like The Daily Caller and Accuracy In Media began publishing the story.

The Dominican prostitutes

The accusations include Sen. Menendez’ use of Dr. Melgen’s CL-600 Challenger plane. Melgen, a native of the Dominican Republic, often traveled back and forth between the island and his home in Florida. The Senator’s staff confirmed he travelled with Melgen to the Dominican Republic on three occasions. One trip occurred while Sen. Menendez was the Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Dr. Melgen simultaneously gave the Committee more than $60,000 in donations.

The scandal took one step closer to Senator Menendez when The Daily Caller released partial transcripts from the written and alleged testimony of one of the underage prostitutes mentioned in the FBI emails. The girl became the sixth Dominican prostitute to confirm they had sex with Sen. Menendez for money, albeit anonymously and in writing. The most staggering part of the admissions is that the girl insists that the sexual encounters occurred when she was just 16 years-old.

Two of the meetings are alleged to have occurred inside Dr. Melgen’s Dominican Republic mansion in Casa de Campo while Sen. Menendez stayed as a guest. The third is claimed to have taken place on the doctor’s yacht. The teenage prostitute says she was regularly invited to work on the boat as a prostitute for Melgen and his guests.

While the accusations are extremely harsh and politically crippling, it should be noted that there is little evidence to support the claims other than the mysterious whistleblower and the Senator’s already documented connection to both Dr. Melgen and his sex offender intern. Those scandals turned out to be true and Senator Menendez was right in the middle of both of them, otherwise we wouldn’t even report these thin charges.

What the authorities do have is a written statement from an underage, Spanish-speaking prostitute and the written statements of a mysterious whistleblower who refuses to talk to authorities or media reporters in person or on the phone. They can also put Sen. Menendez at the place in question, at the time in question.

The leaked 58 pages of FBI communications show that the agency is at least trying to investigate the charges. But they didn’t seem to be having much luck. The questions now are, what were the feds looking for with their 3-city raid of Dr. Melgen’s medical offices, did they find what they were looking for, and does it have anything to do with the underage prostitution charges being leveled at Sen. Robert Menendez?
