Communism to Opus Dei, Santorum has it All

January 13, 2012. Spartanburg, SC. In his bid for the Republican nomination for President, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has been accused by some of being a religious extremist. While a zero tolerance for abortion, gay marriage, Islam and freedom of speech are considered a bit reactionary, they’re moderate for America’s twenty-first century Republican Party. Those views also pale in comparison to the views and backgrounds of some of Rick Santorum’s family.

Opus Dei's global reach, as documented by Wikipedia.

If there was any question where Santorum gets his passion from, here are a couple possibilities. Two recent articles, neither publicized in the mainstream media, have brought a light to two surprising, even shocking, examples of the Santorum family’s passionate beliefs. And strangely enough, they both represent opposite ends of the global political spectrum. The former Senator appears to be trying to position himself somewhere in the middle.

Absent in the media’s description of Santorum is his family’s strong ties to its ancestral home in Italy. It’s there that we find the two extremes of what make up Rick Santorum’s family history.

Communism

One will notice that the above list of Rick Santorum’s chosen antagonists doesn’t include Communists. Before Muslims became the number one target of Republican fear-mongering, the Communists were the party’s favorite boogieman. Your author didn’t think that very unusual, until reading Wednesday’s issue of The Daily Beast at Yahoo News.

The article by Barbie Latza Nadeau does a brilliant job of not only bringing readers a brief history of the Santorum family’s Communist ties, but it does so in the spirit of a loving family reunion rather than a bitter, political fight. The article describes an exclusive interview in the Italian magazine Oggi with 83 year-old Maria Malacarne Santorum – wife of Rick Santorum’s late cousin.

Rick Santorum visited Italy, and Maria and the rest of his family, in 1985, 1986 and 1989. The two main memories of their American cousin Rick are his love of Italian food and his right wing political beliefs. Describing the latter, Maria Santorum explains, “In Riva del Garda his grandfather Pietro and uncles were ‘red communists’ to the core.” Rick’s other cousins add, “There are Santorums who would roll over in their graves to hear [Rick’s] rhetoric.”

Giving the Presidential hopeful some political advice, Italian cousin Maria suggests to Italy’s Oggi magazine, “He would be a great president. But if he wants to make it, he will have to soften some of his positions. To take a stand against homosexuality or to oppose divorce is harmful. Principles count, but in politics one must have the capacity to be open-minded.”

The Santorum family’s modern and ancestral home of Riva del Garda is described as an ultra-liberal town, with extremely liberal views that are diametrically opposite those of the candidate’s. In fact, Santorum’s Italian family members remember times in days gone by when the Santorum household was a regular meeting ground for Italy’s most powerful Communist Party leaders. In the spirit of family values however, both sides of the Santorum family appear to be putting politics aside and embracing and supporting each other regardless. Perhaps it’s those strong family ties, obvious to American observers, that give Rick Santorum a free pass on his family’s politics. Italy is half a world away from American, just like divide between Rick Santorum’s and his family’s political beliefs.

Opus Dei

The second mysterious aspect of Rick Santorum’s beliefs and his family’s connections to Italy are with the now-infamous Catholic sect called Opus Dei. In the movie Da Vinci Code, Opus Dei members are portrayed as secretive, powerful, religious zealots. The movie also accuses the Catholic sect of being allied with the world-controlling Illuminati, waging a millennia-old war against the descendents of Jesus Christ. That part may be more difficult to prove than Rick Santorum’s connections to the group.

The Atlantic Wire detailed the Presidential candidate’s relationship with the controversial group yesterday. Santorum has denied he is a member of Opus Dei. But he freely concedes that he traveled to Italy in 2002 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the group. The article also quotes the Washington Post as describing the elite Catholic parish the Santorum’s belong to – St. Catherine of Siena - as, “a favorite of Opus Dei.”

While Santorum denies he is a member of the group, he and his wife also send their children to a well known, elite Washington DC school called The Heights School. The Atlantic Wire article specifically states that the school is not run by Opus Dei. But other critics insist that the school is made up of a number of powerful Catholic families with membership in Opus Dei.

Opus Dei was officially founded in 1928 and currently has 90,000 members worldwide. While the Da Vinci Code made the group appear to be violent, self-mutilating, murderous, religious zealots, critics of the group argue that the movie isn’t far off from the truth. In fact, the Atlantic Wire article suggests as many as one-third of the groups members are voluntarily celibate and take part in self-mutilation, in an attempt to personally share Christ’s suffering on the cross.

According to the Opus Dei website, the group, “is a Catholic institution founded by Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Its mission is to help people turn their work and daily activities into occasions for growing closer to God, for serving others, and for improving society. Opus Dei complements the work of local churches by offering classes, talks, retreats and pastoral care that help people develop their personal spiritual life and apostolate.”

Modern accounts of Opus Dei often refer to the group as a secret society, perpetually at war with the Vatican and the power brokers of the Catholic Church for control of the religion. According to Opus Dei, their organization is a sub-section of the Catholic Church and exists to support the mission of the Church, not to oppose it. Specifically, the sect describes its position within the Church saying , “Since 1982, Opus Dei has been a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. Personal prelatures exist to carry out specific pastoral missions in the Church, and are part of the jurisdictional, hierarchical structure of the Church. Personal prelatures have a prelate, secular priests, and men and women lay faithful, united as a single organism to carry out the prelature's mission. In Opus Dei’s case, this mission is to spread the ideal of holiness in the middle of the world.”

Regardless of one’s personal beliefs toward either Opus Dei or the Communist Party, Republican candidate Rick Santorum’s connection to each group is admitted and undeniable. And while both relationships have been played down by Santorum as well as the media, neither is likely to hurt the candidate’s chances in the GOP Presidential primary. With one-third of the party made up of Christian conservatives and the entire GOP being anti-Communist like Santorum, Republican voters might find some sympathy for a devout religious man who isn’t afraid to stand up against Communism, even when it’s his own family.

This isn’t the first time Rick Santorum has been connected to secret societies. Read the Whiteout Press article, ‘Prediction – President and Emperor Santorum’. If Opus Dei truly is connected to the infamous secret society called the Illuminati, Rick Santorum may be the perfect candidate to connect the religious fundamentalists with the world-dominating corporate globalists. This was very interesting. However, the most amazing thing about the 2012 presidential candidates is that no one is mentioning the real modern-day illuminati, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the candidate is who belongs to it and has since 1990 - Newt Gindrich. He is not a conservative but a globalist through and through.

Rick is also said to be a Knight of Malta. He may also have ties to Jerry Sandusky and a pedophile ring around the Penn State area as reported by investigative journalist Wayne Madsen.

WHAT the fuck is that about ?killing our own? and mtarlioy=success of capitalism? I agree does he not take into consideration that strip clubs are geared toward STRAIGHT men and make millions of dollars therefore being both IMMORAL and CAPITALIST? capitalism requires some strong modicum of moral consciousness if it?s gonna be successful. Again, examples of immtarlioy (from a Christian viewpoint of mtarlioy ): Bars, Strip clubs, casinos, pornography, etc . these are all very immoral yet extremely successful and lucrative industries.I think maybe he hasn't really been living in modern America maybe an Amish community or something 2
