Roll Call on ISIS War Vote, see how your Rep voted

By Mark Wachtler

September 19, 2014. Washington. (ONN) On Wednesday, the House voted to approve President Obama’s war on ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Yesterday, the Senate followed suit and passed its own version of the legislation. The votes were not along party lines as both establishment parties saw their members split on the issue. Instead, the vote appeared to be along constituent lines, with Washington establishment politicians voting for the War and populist progressives and Tea Partiers voting against it.

The legislation passed by both houses of Congress authorizes President Obama to arm, fund and train what the administration calls ‘moderate Syrian rebels’ in their war against ISIS and the Assad regime. The Bill has a price tag of $500 million. Hours after the measure successfully passed through Congress, the President announced, “I'm pleased that Congress, a majority of Democrats and a majority of Republicans in both the House and Senate, have now voted to support a key element of our strategy.”

Showing that both establishment parties support the new war, 69% of House Republicans and 57% of House Democrats voted for the measure. In the Senate, Democrats took the lead and passed the war authorization with 82% of their members voting yes while 73% of Senate Republicans voted yes. In the House, the final vote was 273-156 with 3 not voting. In the Senate, the vote was 78-22.

Standing in opposition to the war authorization is every single US opposition political party. Within hours of President Obama’s nationally televised speech this week asking for war authorization to hunt down ISIS, the Libertarian Party, Green Party, Constitution Party and the Party for Socialism and Liberation all released public statements opposing US involvement in the Syria and Iraq civil war. Read the Whiteout Press article, ‘All US Opposition Parties oppose Obama ISIS War’ for details.
