July 2, 2014. Washington. (ONN) US Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi accidentally crossed the unguarded, unmanned US-Mexico border on March 31st. In his pickup truck were three registered firearms considered by Mexican authorities to be military-grade weapons. He was immediately arrested and charged with federal crimes. Facing 10 years in a Mexican prison, Tahmooressi’s supporters are holding a rally outside the Mexican embassy in Washington on July 6th.

There are so many things wrong with this case, it’s difficult to know where to start. The most obvious outrage is that the US-Mexico border is obviously unmanned and unguarded. Fox News actually sent a crew to the spot where Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi accidently crossed the border. Sure enough, little lighting, no observable signs, no border patrol. Just a wide open and defenseless southern US border.
Mother appeals for help
The report from Fox News today, July 2nd, says, ‘On the eve of Independence Day, the mother of a Marine jailed in Mexico for three months appealed to America's top diplomat south of the border, asking for help winning the freedom of her 25-year-old son, Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi.’ Jill Tahmooressi, Andrew’s mom, sent an official letter on June 30 to America’s Ambassador to Mexico E. Anthony Wayne asking for his help in obtaining the release of her son.
“If any consideration can be made to expedite the reviews before the federal judge so that he will be closer to probable freedom, those actions would be much appreciated,” she wrote him. After three months of delays, the federal criminal trial appears to be finally moving forward. The family fired their first two defense attorneys, insisting they didn’t do anything but send Tahmooressi’s parents bills for work they didn’t do.
Their third lawyer in Mexico, the one that will defend Andrew at his first court appearance on July 9 is Fernando Benitez. The attorney appears to be taking a pragmatic stance telling the network, “This is a federal court and as in any democratic nation you will not find an executive calling up a judge and ordering the release of a suspect. It makes no difference if it is a mayor, governor, or the president, there's not a phone call in the world that will change this.”
Between the Mexican drug cartels, the Mexican Mafia, the flood of illegal Mexican immigrants, Mexican street gangs, and Mexican authorities opening fire on US Border Patrol agents on American soil - the American people have had just about enough of Mexico lately. Anyone who disagrees need only ask just-defeated House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA).
And what those angry American people want to know is - why can Mexican soldiers accidentally cross into the US and fire upon American police. But an American soldier can’t accidentally cross into Mexico and immediately turn around without being tried and threatened with a decade in prison? That’s what California US Congressmen Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA) want to know. It was in San Diego that Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi was seeing a therapist for his PTSD after two tours in Afghanistan and where he reportedly got lost and accidentally crossed the border.
Andrew’s mom summed up the situation in her letter to the American Ambassador to Mexico when she wrote two days ago, ‘This Independence Day will be a bitter one for Andrew, his family and supporters as his freedom is bound by his felony arrest. Freedom he valiantly fought for others to have, willing to die to combat the evil of oppression and violence, Andrew is experiencing captivity for the first time, in a foreign country as a result of one wrong turn.’
